Wigan Pier
Turning an iconic landmark into a world class destination.
- Date: June 2019
- Client: Step Places
- Project Type: Area regeneration
About this Project
Working in partnership with Step Places, we are currently redeveloping this iconic location, with the aim of creating a world class destination within Wigan.
The redeveloped site will include:
- Eight, two bedroom townhouses
- Office space
- Leisure space
- Gymnasium
- Microbrewery & Gin Distillery
This important heritage site at the heart of Wigan’s history sits a short distance from the town and its transport links.
The area was formally at the end of a narrow gauge tram line which was used to transport coal to the surrounding warehouses. Later the area became famous due to the Wigan Pier nightclub, situated near to the banks of the canal.
The regeneration of this area is currently in progress, and will see the renovation of the current warehouse buildings to provide 55,000 sq ft office space, new space for food and beverage outlets, as well as leisure, retail and community facilities, which aims to put this area back on the map as one of the premier cultural destinations in the North.
